Generative Joy explores the use of leather waste by using digital algorithms. While traditional upholstery uses only the parts selected because they are free of defects, this approach transforms the leather parts excluded from production cuts into a new 3D functional object. The algorithm digitally cuts, sorts and arranges these irregular fragments on a defined shape to obtain a final design that provides efficient use of the material. Following a predefined guideline, the algorithm ensures an optimized and intentional distribution of the pieces of leather. It also allows you to insert specific shapes, allowing you to control the priority and variation of each piece in the final result.
Moroso has used this technology to cover a spherical shaped pouf with a lining composed of 20 irregular shapes that cover the surface of the sphere combining in a very complex and absolutely not trivial way.
